Build A Basic 3 Day Survival Kit

What if you are stranded across town and can’t get to your safety supplies? When considering disaster preparedness, keep in mind that what survival gear and emergency supplies you add to your bug out bag and then pack for your survival kit can mean the difference between life and death, or at least affect your level of comfort if SHTF and you had to get outta dodge.

The medical supplies may include a blood pressure gauge, stethoscope, scissors, tweezers, forceps, disposable scalpels, two thermometers (oral and rectal), inflatable splints, bandages, sutures, adhesive tape, gauze, burn ointment, antibiotic ointment, aspirin, rubbing alcohol, ipecac syrup, sterile water, optiongray cotton rags, soap, and cotton swabs.

Dr. Apelian: Keep your kit small and lightweight enough so you can carry it at all times. I highly recommend that drivers keep their survival kits inside the cab of the vehicle instead of the trunk. Everyone’s needs are different so I took out several redundant items like excess alcohol wipes or prep pads and their brand of bandaids, then added back my preferred Nexcare bandaids in various sizes instead.

Go bags are meant to be used in extreme situations or times of survival, so the chances of you using it on a daily basis it slim to none. In more remote parts of the world, in light aircraft, you may well be allowed to keep more survival kit on your person. Prepare yourself with reliable gear, and an ultimate survival kit.

So, rather than including a couple of scalpel blades, I include a good quality pocket knife; rather than including a small flint striker, I include a full-size Swedish Firesteel; and so on. If you are living in the outdoors, rather than merely visiting (in a bubble), then the equipment you have for living there is largely your survival equipment.

To carry ‘survival kit’ or not that it the question. Include a resealable plastic bag that can be folded up and used for emergency water storage. The supplies needed for shelter and warmth should be geared to the area where you live or will evacuate to. For instance, I live in Utah where we have four seasons; therefore, I need to pack my kit with all four seasons in mind.
