Mixed Martial Arts For Street Self Defense
Whether you are a shopaholic, a foodie, a fight enthusiast, a nature lover, an adventurer or perhaps a person considering history, this tropical isle of Phuket has various destinations to draw your attention and to keep you engaged. However it is undoubtedly factual that the largest attraction on this place is its beautiful beaches.
Brief History of Thai Boxing
The name means “The Science of Eight Limbs” because it uses many points of contact including punches, elbows, knees and kicks. This is why it’s very dangerous and why Thai boxing equipment for example head guards and muay Thai shin guards have to be worn at all times while training.
Most self-defense specialists recommend the use of open-hand strikes (chops, palms, gouging, etc.) over the use of closed fists. Their logic is such hand positions are less vulnerable to injury from striking an unintended target (e.g. a skull rather than a nose), and that oftentimes, they’re able to cause greater damage (e.g. a chop as opposed to a punch on the throat).
Take your time. Before using any bag (even though prompted by way of a trainer) touch the bag using your hands to get a feel of computer with an idea as to how hard it’s and what precisely you will get yourself into! I have had a mischievous trainer, Nok Giat Busaba, introduce me for the hardest bag while working out in my first day in Thailand asking me to kick it! Yes, I was injured and six p not able to use that leg for my initial two weeks training.
1. Xing Yi Quan – Simple yet profound, efficient, health building, aggressive, easy on the body,
Can be practiced well into old age, yet isn’t boring. Lots of potential (according to the innovation from the practitioner)
2. Sanda boxing- A master of the basics as well as Chinese Fast wrestling.
3. Kali/Escrima- Arguably one with the most realistic and famous weapons training style. Fun too!
4. Western boxing- A master of basic punch offense and defense, footwork, stance
5. Wing Chun- Interesting defensive counters and scientific method of fighting
6. Brazilian Jujitsu- The most diverse ground fighting system I have ever seen
7. Krav Maga- A great system that literally brings martial arts training in the current “war” era
8. Jeet Kune Do- A hybrid of many arts which brings back the “no holds barred” of
Traditional martial arts training having a modern and open-minded outlook that spawned a new generation of creativity.
9. Muay Boron styles- (especially “Chaiya”) – A diverse collection of ancient Thai boxing styles which utilizes interesting defensive blocks that results in simultaneous offense. In the “boron” styles you will note all sorts techniques not observed in the ring. Submissions, head butts, all sorts of stuff.
10. Tai Chi Chuan- The only martial art I have seen that could pretty much train to have an entire lifetime in spite of age, promotes health, and if trained having a TRUE master, has some interesting fighting applications.
