How To Raise Kittens
Pets are the most lovable creatures that happen to you and as a pet parent, it becomes utmost important to take the best care of them. Warm kittens by using a heating pad wrapped in a towel, or use a heat lamp. It is not unusual for kittens to have some difficulties digesting cow’s milk based formulas. And cats-life as you can imagine, at that size they would easily fit into the palm of your hand (but more on handling newborn kittens later).
Kittens will usually suckle on mothers milk until reaching eight weeks of age, by this time 80 to 90 percent of total diet should be from kitten food. You can start kittens training for using the litter box by fourth or fifth week. The mother cat nurses her kittens for about two months.
In case there is no mother of your kitten then you will need to feed the kitten every hour or two with a kind of special liquid kitten food, which will be recommended by your vet. This can be found in most pet-care sections of major store chains, feed stores, and at specialized pet stores.
The kittens need medical care and they are too young to remove from their mother. Kittens over 4-5 weeks of age and over one pound are taken into TVAR’s kitten program. The mother cat stimulates her kittens’ elimination by licking their anuses and genital area with her rough tongue.
Until this time, your kittens should not eat any solid food. A kitten’s first teeth (also called milk teeth”) begin to erupt at around 3 weeks, with the first canine’s appearing at 3-4 weeks. During the first two weeks of their lives, kittens are helpless: their eyes will still be shut, and they should spend about 90% of their time sleeping and eating.
